AI Photography Is Here to Stay, But Is It Art?

AI Stock Photography Is Everywhere Now

Ever noticed those glitches in hands or fingers, odd-looking body parts, or random people or animals that appear out of nowhere in reels on Instagram? Same. They give me the “ick” too. This is the result of AI photography. And now every time we scroll, we find ourselves asking:

“Is this AI or is it genuine?”

AI is already changing how we experience media. We are being forced to think deeper about what we are looking at. And while AI can be unhelpful or chaotic in a lot of ways, there is also a fascinating opportunity here.

Because like any new technology, AI brings both challenges and possibilities. There is a lot of noise. There is a lot of pushback. But it is also important to remember this:

  • AI is still in its infancy.
  • It will keep evolving.
  • It’s already shaping the creative world — whether we agree with it or not.

So instead of asking whether AI should exist (because it already does), I think the better question is:

How can AI become a useful creative tool without replacing human artistry?

AI Photography Is Not Replacing Art. It Is Becoming Another Creative Tool.

AI stock images are really still in the beginning phase. They will keep improving. And at some point, they will simply become a normal part of how brands and creatives work.

This does not mean AI replaces traditional art or photography. In my opinion, it cannot. There is something deeply meaningful about a human behind a camera, capturing a real moment, real energy, real connection. Photography is storytelling in a way AI will never fully replicate.

But AI can exist next to traditional art forms.
It becomes a creative partner, helping us explore ideas, refine language, and bring greater clarity to our concepts and vision.
It can be another tool in the creative world.

And when used with intention, direction, and strategy, it can even be a tool of artistic expression.

The Creative Story Behind My AI Stock Image Collections for Entrepreneurs

It goes back about 15 years. When I was in high school, I started designing mockup magazine covers using my brother’s professional photography. (I write more about that on my site). He is a seasoned professional photographer now, but started his career long before it became mainstream (in the late eightees). He was mastering composition, lighting, and developing his creative eye very early on. My brother was actually the one who introduced me to graphic design. That’s when I first learned Photoshop and started learning how to edit photos and design flyers, eventually leading to designing books, brand identities, and websites.

Over the years, my brother built a career as one of the top photographers in Los Angeles. The reason people love his work is because it feels timeless. His subjects are portrayed in the most beautiful way, and their personality feels deeply seen. That kind of artistry is not something AI can duplicate. It comes from instinct and years of practice.

How We Began Combining Photography Experience With AI Tools

That kind of innate timelessness and visual storytelling is what I wanted in the visuals for my own brand/business. That’s how we came up with the idea to generate our own collections of AI Stock Images together. Our collaboration is rooted in that balance between understanding my target audience, art-direction, and embracing AI-image generation technology.

Using AI to create these gorgeous, timeless images isn’t just about typing in prompts. There’s finesse, refinement, and a lot of attention to detail involved. In many ways, the process of creating these images it’s its own form of art (perhaps it’s worth an entire blog post on just that.)

I see AI stock image generation as essentially a tool that allows you to bring what’s in your head to life. Yes, it completely removes the physical and tangible aspect of taking a photo, but it opens up new doors of creative freedom.

Of course, AI can never replace traditional photography. There’s something irreplaceable about a person snapping an image behind a camera, the quality of a film camera, and the emotional connection you get with real-life photoshoots. But AI can complement photography if done with intentionality, passion, and creative direction. It’s not a replacement; it’s another tool of creative expression.

Why AI Stock Images Can Actually Help Small Businesses

Before working in design full time, I spent seven years in the industrial robotics and automation industry. That experience taught me a lot about how technology fills gaps and solves real problems. It also showed me that the people who are willing to embrace new tools usually move ahead and gain a competitive advantage.

At the same time, I completely understand why people feel hesitant about adopting new technology. It can feel like it is taking over the world, by replacing our jobs. But in reality, technology gives us time back. It allows us to explore more creative work, connect more deeply with our audiences, free up our schedule, and become more efficient.

And in the creative world, one of the biggest problems / bottlenecks I found is this:

it is nearly impossible to find large libraries of cohesive, high-quality, aesthetic images that small businesses can actually use across platforms.

There are great websites like Canva, Pexels, and Pixabay. But the imagery is often inconsistent or overused. And finding 300 or 500 images with the same mood, tone, and visual direction is almost impossible.

Strategy Meets Creative Direction

So together, my brother and I built curated image bundles that actually make sense for:

  • brand designers
  • creative studios
  • business coaches
  • wellness brands
  • operations and systems experts
  • service-based entrepreneurs

We combined both of our strengths to curate image bundles that function and make marketing a lot easier. I bring the market research, strategy, and design perspective, and he brings the AI-generated prompts to guide art direction, lighting, and composition. Together, we generate and refine thousands of images, handpicking only the ones that align with the brand aesthetics we know small business owners are looking for.

When you’re marketing your business, you need images everywhere — on your website, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, or LinkedIn, and ads. And each of those platforms serve a different purpose and have different size and crop requirements.

Instead of spending hours searching endlessly and finding only one image at a time, having a collection of hundreds of cohesive images makes it much easier to choose what fits best for each format. It saves time, reduces stress, and helps you stay visually consistent without having to start from scratch every time you create content. And they’re beautiful too.

AI Has Limitations. But It Also Has Immense Creative Potential.

AI, at its core, cannot replace creativity. In the creative world, it can produce images beautifully, but it doesn’t have emotion or instinct like humans. It’s only as strong as the creative direction individual behind it.

The more I’ve used tools like ChatGPT and AI image generators, the more I’ve realized this truth. They’re powerful, but they still need you, your voice, your story, and your intuition.

AI Photography Is Still Art When Guided By Human Vision

The goal isn’t to resist these tools but to use them thoughtfully. If you are already using AI tools like ChatGPT for writing, marketing, or process-flow, it similarly makes sense to explore how AI-generated imagery can work for you too. Do your research, understand its shortcomings, and navigate your options carefully.

When used with the right creative direction, AI stock images can look stunning, realistic, and emotionally resonant. They can still have flaws, but as the technology improves, new doors open to meet higher level standards, and creativity becomes a reality even faster.
